We left the condo at 5:30am and headed over to the east side of Maui and the Hana Highway. These are Eucalyptus Trees notice their multicolored bark. This colored bark known as 'painted bark'. I wish I had taken a better photo cause these trees are too cool. This portion of Maui is filled with forests of Bamboo. When the wind blows this bamboo sways back and forth, which lead to the bamboo being called 'Waving Bamboo'.When we started our Hana Highway adventure it was rainy and windy. There are 56 bridges and 617 turns, many of them blind curves and large portions of the road single lane.More Waving Bamboo.DSCF0935.JPGThe swaying Bamboo lined roads were really cool.Palm Trees and Bamboo Trees. We stopped at Kaumahina State Wayside Park for a quick bathroom break and our packed breakfast.Just down the road from the park was this view and Honomanu Bay.This is the black sand beach in Honomanu Bay. When we were on Maui in 2006 we walked the very steep road down the beach. This year we passed as it was so rainy. The rain forest views were just awesome.More of the rain forest.DSCF0948.JPGAgain these valley views are unbelievable.
